2021...new year and new name

2/19/2021

So after a 2020 that was rough on all of us, we are finally in a new year, and hopefully things will only go better from here on.

Here at Exotic Reptiles things are changing and as of 2021 we will no longer be know as Exotic Reptiles, but we have changed the name to Rainbow Corns.
Exotic Reptiles was originally created to have a variety of reptiles for sale, but after a few years of doing this and getting experience with a variety of reptiles from Bearded Dragons, Leopard Gecko,  Crested Geckos, Copperheads, White lipped tree vipers, Ball pythons and even some tarantulas and scorpions, I came to the decision to only do Corn snakes as I just love them.

So with that in mind the new stock have hatched and are ready to be sold and will be listed on the for sales page soon.

Here is hoping that 2021 will be a better year for us all and that we can deliver a service to the public that is above standard and getting some good quality snake out there.

Good luck to you all.

And its breeding season again

So the 2020/2021 breeding season has kicked off. Females getting fat with eggs, already a few started to drop their eggs so will be having many clutches in the next few weeks.

We are hoping that we can improve on the morphs from last years hatchlings as we have added a few new morph to our breeders as well as some keepers from previous cluthes are ready to breed this year, giving us a better chance of getting some new morphs in, but this year is still a guessing game as we don't know the complete genetics of all or snakes yet, but hoping to get a better picture of this with this breeding season.

So let's get on with it and get this breeding season off to a great start.

Happy breeding guys!

hibernation time - almost time for the breeding season to start again

So it is hibernation time for most of us breeders and I am preparing to give my last feed to the corns before letting them take their nap through August, resting up good to have a great coming breeding season.

Luckily we got some extra males for the breeding season so we should be set to have a bunch of great clutches coming our way and hopefully a few surprise morphs hatch as a result as I have no idea of the history of the new males and females. And we have to check and see if the next generation breeders will also be ready this season but I doubt they will be until next year.

Also finally finished the new enclosures for the gecko colonies will post some pictures as soon as the last cage is sprayed and decorated and then it to will be ready for our breeders to enjoy.

So here is hoping that everyone will have a great season to come and may all your hard work pay off at the end with rewards of great new animals to add to your collection.

Unsuccesfull breeding season

2/25/2019

So 2018 was not a good breeding year at exotic reptiles.  Most of our corn snake eggs came out infertile and the few that were fertile never made it to hatching.  Bad planning from our side is the biggest blame here as we ended up with only 2 males before breeding season and unfortunately the one male passed away during hibernation and we were left with one male and clearly his sperm count was not up to parr.

Valuable lesson learnt but thankfully we are procuring a new batch of snakes this weekend and all our non breeders will be ready to breed this coming season so expecting a great 2019 breeding season.

Luckily the Crested gecko project we started last year has been very successful but only having one breeding female also slowed down the breeding.
She has been laying steadily and has given me 4 great clutches of healthy eggs of which 2 clutches have already hatched and expecting her to lay more before the season is over.

This project will take a time to get to full steam but we already have her one hatchling from last season which is now getting nice and big and turned out to be a female so she will be joining one of the younger males to start a new colony.

Here is hoping for a better season this year and great new morphs to come.

Breeding season has started

So another breeding season has started and as with us most of you probably have eggs in the incubator already or some heavily gravid females.  In either case, we wish all of you luck with you breeding and hope that all goes off good.
I have seen some posts on facebook of people loosing eggs due to eskom and their lack of supplying power to some areas, luckily we have not had that problem and keeping fingers crossed that we don't.
Would like to hear from you guys and see what is being done out there in the reptile community.
So send us an email or comment on this post, send us your details and lets stay in contact.

Breeding pair red tail boas

Add some new snakes to my collection today.  A breeding pair of red tail boas.  Two beautiful snakes that I adopted from a guy in Krugersdorp who is expecting their first child and so can not care for the snakes in the manner they need to so he asked me to take them over.
They are truely beautiful animals and I am sure I will have great success with the two of them in the future.

first corn eggs for the season

11/18/2015

So on monday I came home after work and with the lovely rain storm we had I had one hell of a time getting home, but grateful for the rain anyway.
When I finally got home all wet, I got a little surprise in the snake cage.
On sunday I noticed that two of the females were very restless and swollen and even though I thought they were still too young to lay this year, I decided to make two laying bins just in case.
So looks like I was wrong cause on monday when I got home the first female started to lay her eggs and by tuesday night I had 13 eggs.
Was a very nice surprise especially as I wasn't expecting any eggs this season.  Now just keeping fingers crossed that they are fertile, but will keep you updated on this.

Hello everybody

I know there has not been alot going on on my site the last while, but life kicked in and I got married last year April and married life took up all the time.
Unfortunately I am now getting divorced but on the bright side now I can spend more time on my breeding and my website and finish what I have started.
I will start placing more posts and keep you guys updated on everything going on.

In the meantime if any of you have any reptiles that you no longer want or are not able to take care of please contact me and I will take them off you hands.
Also seeing as it is breeding season and many of you might be finding surprise clutches of eggs in your cages you are more than welcome to contact me regarding those as well as I will gladly take them and hatch them.

Until later
Have a great day further and enjoy your reptiles
